The following sheets show some of the basic cross diagrams and measurement requirements for insert windows, complete full frame windows and doors, not all measurement may be needed, but they do hep in selecting the proper sized units for your home.

For Inside Opening Width (A) measure inside of frame at three locations: the sill, the center and the head jamb. Record the narrowest mesurement NOTE: THis measurement is from wood surface to wood surface. Removal of existing jamb hardware may be necessary to reach the frame.
Measurement B

Measure the inside Opening Height (B) from the top of the sill to the bottom of the head jamb as shown above.

    (if window is to it into siding or brick, furnish O.S. Brickmound sizes.)

Required Measurements

  • A. Frame Rabbet Opening Size:
    • Frame Rabbet Opening Width: is the dimension from inside frame to inside frame rabbet.
    • Frame Rabbet Opening Height is the dimension from the bottom of the threshold to the bottom o the top frame rabbet.
  • B. Unit Size:
    • Unit Width: is the total width of the door frame not including the brickmold.
    • Unit Height is the dimension from the bottom of the threshold to the top of the door frame not including the brickmold.
  • C. Rough Opening Size:
    • Rough Opening Width: is the dimension between the 2 wall studs framing the opening.
    • Rough Opening Height is the dimension from the floor to the bottom of the header framing the opening.
  • D. Brickmold to Brickmold Size:
    • Brickmold to Brickmold Width: is the total width of the brickmold.
    • Brickmold to Brickmold Height is the dimension from the bottom of the threshold to the top of the brickmold.
